For a short intro into my race for the Assembly in NJ's 14th see my previous diary post.
In New Jersey, last year's increased property tax rebates were supposed to be a short-term solution to provide assistance to our seniors and families that needed relief now, while waiting for a long-term solution to be determined by a property tax convention. With the rebates proposed to be cut, the Legislature needs to once again find a way to provide relief now, whether short-term or permanent for the residents of New Jersey. It needs to recognize the fundamental failure of property taxes as the primary funder of education costs in the state and its inherent unfairness to those on fixed incomes, especially seniors.
