Phonebanking for Marriage Equality
Thu Jun 19, 2008 at 07:29:55 AM PDT
Last night I participated in Equality California's phonebanking to identify voters who haven't yet made up their minds about which way they're voting on the issue come November.
The atmosphere was exciting and promising. And the collective results of the calls were encouraging, to say the least.

CA Assembly passes AB2567: Harvey Milk Day
Wed May 21, 2008 at 01:15:29 PM PDT
On the heals of California's Supreme Court reversing the ban on same-sex marriage, the state may be poised to become the first to designate an annual day to honor a gay-rights pioneer.
On Monday, May 19th, the California Assembly passed AB 2567, by a vote of 45-23, with no Republican support. The bill was introduced by Mark Leno (AD-13) and would designate every May 22 as Harvey Milk Day, encouraging schools to conduct "suitable commemorative exercises." Milk was born May 22, 1930 and would be 78 tomorrow.

More Matthew Popes.
Matthew is a senior at Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, Kansas.
He's on the cheerleading squad. He's popular. You'd think that being gay and out would preclude the acceptance.
But he's the homecoming king of the class of 2008.
Tonight I joined ANOTHER movement for change
Tue Apr 22, 2008 at 08:27:55 PM PDT
I don't have anything newsworthy to say. I just want to tell you what I did tonight.
Tonight I joined, long overdue, another movement for change. I donated for the first time to the Obama campaign. Handing over $100 wasn't so much exciting as maybe a feeling I was making a statement - to the Obama campaign as well as the Clinton campaign.
